Ford County Homestead

Homestead, Ford County, Illinois

This farmhouse looks like many others in rural Illinois. The many shapes and roof lines reveal a long history of change, technology and fashion.

Before it’s scheduled demolition the structure was documented, many parts catalogued and salvaged.

At the center of the farmhouse was the original one room log structure. The log structure was crafted from 18”-24” hand hewn oak logs. Door and window jambs were walnut planks, fastened with pegs. Based on the construction techniques and area history the structure dates to the pre civil war era.

The log structure was dismantled and rebuilt at a farming history museum.
